In continuous slab casting, clogging in the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) ports leads to flow asymmetry and vortex formation in the mould. Knowledge of vortexing and its influence on product quality is fundamental for defect-free production. In this study, the interconnected effects of nozzle clogging and SEN submergence depth, variation on flow asymmetry and vortex characteristics in a 0.4 scale water caster have been characterised by CFD investigation and validated with experimental results from the authors’ previous work. Mean flow velocities at the sub-meniscus and near the port exit predicted by the computational model are compared with the time-averaged values of the impeller probe velocity measurements and found to be in reasonable agreement. Three different clogging conditions (0, 33 and 66% in the left port of the SEN) for SEN submergence depth of 60?mm are studied and the 66% clogging produced vortices having largest diameter, which is consistent with the experimental observations. The effects of SEN submergence depth on flow asymmetry and vortexing are investigated with three different conditions – 40, 60 and 80?mm. It is found that the shallow SEN submergence depth (40?mm) produces vortices of largest diameter and the flow is most stable for a SEN submergence depth of 60?mm among the three cases. Vortex bending towards the SEN as noticed in the experimental observations is also observed in the computational study. Multistage hydrogen Knudsen compressor based on the thermal transpiration effect has very exciting prospect for the hydrogen transmission in the micro devices. Understanding of the hydrogen flow characteristic is the key issue for the designs and applications of the hydrogen energy systems. Firstly, the numerical models of the multistage hydrogen Knudsen compressor are established. The distributions of the rarefaction, velocity and temperature at different stages of the hydrogen flow are calculated and presented. Moreover, the dimensional pressure increases of the hydrogen gas flow are analyzed, and the flow behaviors in the microchannel and the connection channel are discussed. Secondly, the numerical simulation at different connection channel height is implemented, and the hydrogen gas flow characteristics in the connection are analyzed. Especially, the performances of the pressure drop in the connection channel under different channel heights are studied, and the hydrogen gas compression characteristics of different cases are compared and discussed. Also, the effect of the connection channel height on the hydrogen gas pressure increase in the microchannel is investigated. Measurement of vertical and horizontal vibrations of a probe for acoustic evaluation of food texture
Two‐dimensional (vertical and horizontal) vibrations of a wedge‐type probe upon food rupture were evaluated separately using two accelerometers placed perpendicular to a guide rod of a swing‐arm device for texture evaluation of the flesh of three varieties of apples and three types of potato chips. Voltage signals from the accelerometers were filtered using a half‐octave band‐pass filter. The energy texture index (ETI), based on kinetic energy of the vertical or horizontal probe vibrations, was calculated over low to high frequency bands (no. 1–21). The spectra for the flesh of the three varieties of apples included two common peaks for vertical ETI at band no. 11 (1,120–1,600 Hz) and 19 (17,920–25,600 Hz) and horizontal ETI at band no. 1 (0–10 Hz) and 15 (4,480–6,400 Hz). The spectra for the three types of potato chips had a common ETI peak at band no. 11 (1,120–1,600 Hz) for horizontal ETI and at no. 15 (4,480–6,400 Hz) for vertical ETI. The three apple varieties gave rise to different intensities of vertical and horizontal ETIs while the two peaks were maintained. The thick potato chip type had higher vertical and horizontal ETIs than the thin and soft varieties in most bands; however, the thin type had the highest vertical ETIs only in lower bands (0–200 Hz). The soft type had the lowest vertical and horizontal ETI. The above results suggest that different food textures can be distinguished by two‐dimensional vibration analyses of probe insertion into a food sample based on frequency bands. 相似文献

The hydrokinetic energy of flowing water is plentiful, environment-friendly, renewable and can be harvested. This paper reports a new energy harvesting system using vortex-induced vibration (VIV). The proposed convertor harvests vibrations of a bluff body resulting from interaction of the alternating vortices created by the unsteady separation. These vortices are shed from the sides of the bluff body and form a pattern in the wake known as the von Kármán vortex street. The vortices create unsteady loading and induce vibrations with a predictable frequency and amplitude. Assisted by the bluff body with specific geometry and piezoelectric generators, the kinetic energy of the water flow can be converted into mechanical vibrations and electrical energy. In order to maximise the output energy of the harvester, the natural frequency of the mechanical system needs to lock into the frequency of the VIVs. Thus, the geometry of the bluff body has to be optimised to match the natural frequency of the convertor. This study examines the conceptual design of the physical model. The fluid–structure interaction model is applied to study the preliminary design. The actuator disk is a well‐known and widely used theoretical tool in wind engineering. This work proposes a new theory based on an actuator surface, capable of treating time‐varying vectorial load distributions and yaw/pitch misalignment. A simplified representation of vortex motion is used to arrive at a tractable problem. The theory is not restricted to disks; arbitrary coplanar (optionally disjoint) actuator surfaces may be modeled. Some of the theoretical novelties used in the modeling includes use of the fractional Laplacian and extensive use of the Fourier transform on . Promising experimental validation based on pitch‐step experiments at the Tjæreborg turbine is furnished. Comparisons are also made to existing methodologies. Abstract For polymer induced flocculation processes, the effects of flow patterns in a gap of a conical stirrer on aggregate formation and subsequent sludge dewatering efficiency were analysed. Different flow regimes were identified by lab scale investigations with model substances and summarized in a Ta and Re number plane. An enhancement of sludge dewaterability for polymer induced flocculation processes was identified through post‐treatment of flocculated sludge aggregates by the specific flow pattern of stable and wavy Taylor vortices. Photo‐optical image analysis of flocculated aggregates shows a clear change of aggregate size distribution with less small particles during aggregate forming by Taylor vortices compared to classical flocculation procedure by stirrer. Results from technical scale dewatering analyses confirmed enhancement of sludge dewatering efficiency for six different dewatering machines using the identified wavy and stable Taylor vortex flow pattern regime. 相似文献
